We regret to announce that our CEO John Govett has resigned from his role with the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) due to an impending family relocation.
He has led the team to transform MaPS, successfully integrating three services into one, focused on delivering our vision of everyone making the most of their money and pensions. His significant achievements include the production of the transitional business plan for 2019/20, the ongoing UK-wide 10 city listening phase with stakeholders and our new MaPS branding.
John and I have agreed that the production of the National Strategy should be overseen by those who will have the responsibility for delivering it. John’s family relocation will mean he is unable to make that long-term commitment to MaPS, and so now is the best time for any change.
John has successfully led the recent restructure of our 350-strong team and now is an appropriate time to announce his own departure.
The Board has appointed Caroline Siarkiewicz, currently Partnerships and Commissioning Director at MaPS, to be acting Chief Executive whilst it conducts a search process for a permanent appointment. The appointment will be open to both internal and external candidates and recruitment will commence very shortly.
Caroline’s appointment is effective from Friday 14 June. Reflecting the intensive nature of the forward agenda for MaPS, and, in particular the commitment to produce a National Strategy and three-year Corporate Strategy for MaPS in November, Sarah Porretta (Strategy & Insights Director) and Steve Buckingham (CFO) will be directly accountable to the Board for these key deliverables. This focused approach will enable these critical milestones to be achieved in parallel with the equally vital role of delivering the 2019/20 Business Plan.
I am confident that our MaPS Executive Management Board will build on the momentum we already have as an organisation, delivering the ambitious programme we have set ourselves.
I would like to thank John for his huge personal effort to help bring together our three legacy organisations into one new one. We have made excellent progress under John and we are well set for the future as a result. I will personally be sorry to see him leave us.
John said, “I’ve been engaged in the MaPS project for around a year now and I’m so proud of the positive position the organisation has reached, enabling me to leave everything in a good position. I have enjoyed immensely working with Sir Hector, and now feels like the right time to hand over the baton to a future CEO who can make the longer-term commitment necessary to deliver the National Strategy that my relocation prevents me from doing”.
We respect John’s decision to resign for personal reasons and wish him well with his family move, and his future career.
