Speaker: Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) and The Pensions Regulator
MaPS and The Pensions Regulator (TPR) held a joint virtual event on 19 November 2021, ahead of the launch of Pension Safeguarding appointments on 30 November. These appointments will be available for consumers where schemes or providers have signposted them to guidance where ‘amber flags’ have identified there may be a risk they are transferring into a scam vehicle. The event was held with around 100 participants from across the industry, including pension providers, occupational pension schemes, and lawyers.
The PDF contains the slides that were delivered by MaPS and TPR at the event. They set out the key aspects of TPR’s guidance, and the process of signposting to, and MaPS’ delivery of, guidance appointments. They contain the key points that will help schemes and providers navigate this process, as well as a map to illustrate its stages. It is important to note that the new provisions give schemes and providers new powers to stop transfers or refer consumers for guidance, but there is no requirement on providers and schemes to change their due diligence processes.
