It is clearly very easy for the scammers to persuade their victims that the financial “advice” they were offering would supposedly improve their later life. The pensions scams market is constantly evolving and it’s vital that we stay on top of what is happening. Currently The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) is receiving an average of 50 scam calls a month where people have lost all or most of their savings, that equates to millions of pounds lost each year, a fact not usually realised until many years later.
I was delighted to be invited to the webinar and I would like to thank The Pensions Regulator (TPR) for asking me to speak and take part in a panel discussion with Mike Broomfield and Kevin Whitmore from TPR, who had shown how the pension scams market is developing and becoming a real threat to the financial wellbeing of so many people in the UK.
I strongly recommend that if anyone receives a call from someone they don’t know and claiming to be from their bank or pension provider that they do not discuss or share any personal or banking details and check with the company via their helpline to verify that the caller is genuine.

The aim of ‘The Pledge to Combat Pension Scams’ webinar was to update all attendees on the pledge and how they could be directly involved and support the campaign.
The keynote address from TPR CEO Charles Counsell was directly followed by Charlotte Jackson from MaPS who shared the experience of people that use TPAS and who’d been previously contacted by pension scammers.
